For someone who likes doing such a physically demanding activity as mountaineering, I can be awfully lazy. I’m not so crazy about exercise and I hate running. The only gym class I attended with considerable consistency was yoga because it didn’t involve running around or lifting stuff but even that didn’t last.
That’s why I’m marking this as a historic achievement: I finished my very first run! Fine, it’s a five-kilometer fun run which I completed in 40 minutes and I actually jogged the whole time in about the same pace as the six-year-old next to me but let’s not get lost in the details.
Jet cajoled and coerced and bullied his way into making me join the Run Against Cancer event held in Camp Aguinaldo yesterday. It was spearheaded by Nanay Nini Sacro of Climb Against Cancer, and we love and adore her so it was hard to say no. The run was for the benefit of the pediatric cancer ward of the National Children’s Hospital. Registration fee is P450 inclusive of singlet.
Running may not be as bad as I thought. I even managed to, dare I say it, have fun. Don’t expect me to start training for a marathon anytime soon though. Running and I had a great first date but I’m in no shape yet to get serious.
