Hey look, I finally bought a digicam, about two decades after digital photography came into being. Yeah so I’m not exactly an early adopter. The thing is I’m not really keen on buying shiny techie gadgets. I’d rather spend my money on things like food and books; I’m always hungry and I’m always bored. On the other hand, I don’t always feel the need to take pictures.
I developed a mild interest in photography in college when I took a class on black and white photography. Back then I used an ancient SLR camera, trooped to Quiapo to buy cheap film (P40) and expensive photo paper (P15 a piece), and worked in the dark room to develop the film and print photos. I started traveling on my own last year when I went on a solo beach trip to Talipanan, the much quieter part of Puerto Galera. I was supposed to go with a friend but he bailed out on me on the day of the trip itself.
I was already packed and ready to go and I didn’t want to cancel. I seriously considered breaking his neck but he was able to pacify me with dark chocolate. I’m very gullible and easily bribed with food so I let him live. Continue reading →
Tell a corny joke that goes like this: May binebentang tarsier sampung piso lang, kaso may problema – singkit.
The sanctuary caretaker who happens to be easily amused laughed at that joke and asked me if I wanted to hold a tarsier. There was a sign that said “Do not touch the tarsier” so I hesitated but he said it’s fine since he’s there to make sure the animal isn’t harmed. He then gently placed the tiny creature in my hand. It meekly perched on my palm for about five seconds before jumping back to its branch. Continue reading →
